ISCoC Policies

Statement on Freedom Policy

The Organising Committee of the International School of Crystallography shall observe the basic policy of nondiscrimination and affirms the rights of scientists throughout the world to adhere or to associate with international scientific activity without regard to such factors as ethnic origin, religion, citizenship, language, political stance, gender, sex or age, in accordance with the Statutes of the International Council for Science. At this course no barriers will exist which would prevent the participation of bona fide scientists.

Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Statement

The organizers are committed to providing a safe, productive, and welcoming environment for all participants, regardless of sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, age, physical appearance, body size, ethnicity, nationality, or religion. We strive for balanced and diverse speaker panels that represent varied backgrounds and perspectives without compromising academic and professional standards. In line with this commitment, we support and adhere to the IUCr statement on gender balance (https://www.iucr.org/iucr/principles-and-policies/gender-balance).

ISCoC Event ED&I Policy & Code of Conduct

Our Commitment

We strive to deliver safe, engaging, and inclusive events for everyone, free from harassment across all identity grounds. We actively promote diversity across our speaker panels while maintaining high program standards. All attendees and speakers must commit to this Code of Conduct upon registration.

Code of Conduct Standards

• Act Professionally: Use respectful language appropriate for an international, multi-cultural audience. Sexual content and discriminatory jokes are prohibited.
• Treat Others with Kindness: Insults, harassment, intimidation, stalking, unwanted physical contact/attention, non-consensual media capture, and belittling remarks will not be tolerated.
• Comply Promptly: If asked to stop uncomfortable behavior, you are expected to comply immediately.

Reporting an Incident

If you encounter or observe unacceptable behavior:

1. Address the person directly if you feel safe doing so.
2. Contact the Organizing Committee directly at Annalisa Guerri with a description of the incident.
3. The committee will investigate promptly and provide support mechanisms (such as escorts or external service links) to ensure your safety.

Sanctions & Ejection

ISCoC and event organizers reserve the right to take necessary action against policy violations. Following a swift committee review, potential consequences include:

• Formal warnings or required physical separation from specified attendees.
• Interruption of talks or refusal to publish presentation materials.
• Immediate removal from the event and revoking of privileges.
• Temporary or permanent bans from future events, mailing lists, and media channels.
• Reporting the incident to the individual's employer.
