Warning

Unfortunately, there is an increasing number of fraudulent websites and email promotions claiming to offer registration and accommodation services. Please be advised that payment for your attendance can only be processed with the information available within your personal myErice area. Importantly, your accommodation is covered by your participation fee and is handled directly by the organisers. The School organisers have no conventions with any hotels and are in no way responsible for arrangements that you make autonomously.

Please be aware of possible scams

Grants

For scientists interested in attending the school but needing financial assistance, several organizations provide travel grants. Participants are encouraged to reach out to these organizations directly.

  • Grants to cover the registration fee (whole or in part), mainly for applicants under 35, may be available from the school organizers. A letter from a senior scientist to support the applicant's request should be sent to Annalisa Guerri together with the request for funding. The letter should include the amount requested.

Grants covering travelling expenses are usually not available but you can check the following websites for possibilities:

  • Andreas Förster Grant, click HERE for more information.
  • MDPI awards – more information is HERE.
  • ECA – WiC fundraising project: please check the website for more information about the application (https://ecanews.org/financial-support/call-for-women-in-crystallography-grants/)
  • You can also check for travel grant announced by ELECTRA e.V. https://electraec.wordpress.com/. ELECTRA e.V. is a non-profit association dedicated to promoting science and education in the field of electron crystallography in Europe. Supporting student participation in events related to electron crystallography is one of the association's activities.
  • Travel support will be available from the German Crystallographic Association. Please check the https://dgk-home.de/ webpage for relevant information.

You can also check with the Italian Ministry of the Foreign Affairs

  • The MAE (Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, DGPCC, Office VI) annually awards bursaries and grants to foreign and Italian citizens interested in advancing their scientific and technological expertise. Information on the application procedures—which must be initiated well in advance—can be obtained at Italian embassies abroad or via www.esteri.it

Additional information can be obtained by writing to Annalisa or Paola.

Visa

Depending on the country they are travelling from, School participants may need a Visa to enter Italy. To find out if you need a visa check http://www.esteri.it/visti/; the site is available in several languages.

If a visa is necessary, participants must enquire immediately with the Italian authorities in their country about the list of documents needed.

Let Paola and Annalisa know, so that they may help you overcoming difficulties and provide you with links to necessary documents.
